Hanukkah Celebration

Hanukkah or the Festival of Lights is a Jewish feast celebrated by some rituals of lighting the Menorah commemorating the miracle of the oil. The Jews usually enlighten candles with oil for eight days and nights and all their food in these days in fried in oil.
Celebrating the eight-day feast of Hanukah includes reciting three blessings during the festival. In the first night, they recite all the three blessings and in all the following nights they recite only two blessings. In some countries the blessings are said before the candles are lit and in other countries after the candles are lit, according to tradition. In the first night one candle is enlightened in the right side of the Menorah and in the second night another candle is placed to the left and this process continues every night till the end of the festival.

The scent of frying latkes is an essential part of Hanukkah meal in almost all the Jewish houses. It is also celebrated with eight days of presents, games, singing and feasting especially in North America. There are eight gifts of chocolate, money or any other gift usually presented over the course of the eight nights of Hanukkah; a gift in each night after lightening the Menorah. Some of the families prefer preparing the Hanukkah gifts at home to make their friends and family feel they are special.
